Palm Sunday

The bible tells us that Jesus came into Jerusalem and was greeted excitedly by jubilant locals, who have heard of His teachings and miracles and are keen to be liberated and admitted to His Father's house.

What was to follow was not a happy tale but one of betrayal and ultimately the death sentence.

As it turned out, a disruptive US President had disregarded the world trading order and impose tariffs on almost every country in the world, dishonoured agreements his Govt had signed. He had the cheek to call it 'Liberation Day' though i doubt Americans felt that way, unlike those in Jerusalem nearly 2000 years ago.

The news of the world make for grim reading nowadays. I am presently in Tokyo and doing my part to make the situation better including having a series of progressive forward looking meetings with JICA, Asia's major aid provider from Japan.

Acts of kindness, however, often happen at a micro level. And one act of random kindness happened to me.

My flight back to Singapore was later in the afternoon. Since I have some time in the morning, I decided to go take a walk in the nearby park. There is however a small entrance fee of JPY320 but they only took cash and I had none with me. I was working out options with the ticket counter but to no avail.

A man (who was exiting the park) witnessed my plight and kindly bought for me and I was really grateful, of course. Not only did I get to amble in the park, I did it with a heart full of gratitude of human kindness.

There is indeed hope in the world. Wishing all of you a blessed Palm Sunday.
